Key Stage 4 History
Key stage 4 history sessions available at the Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson.
GCSE students can explore specific topics using our original artefacts.
Studies in depth
Investigating primary sources, original objects and interpretations of historical events, these sessions can be used as revision for Year 11 as well as an introductory overview for Year 10.
Fort Nelson is an ideal venue for History focused visits by pupils in Years 7-13. We offer a wide variety of primary and secondary sources and provide opportunities for students to engage with the subjects in different ways.
A visit means exploring opportunities in the Education Centre by handling original and replica objects and combining it with the resources of the large artillery pieces, interpretations and live demonstrations.
For example: Look at the lives of the British ‘Tommy’, the conditions he lived through and his equipment. Explore his feelings throughout the war.
- Each booking is for a half day (finish at 12.00pm) or whole day (finish at 2.00pm). Groups usually arrive at 10am though this can be negotiated at the time of booking. The cost is £2.00 per pupil.
- There can be up to 4 sessions throughout the day, each lasting between 30 – 60 minutes depending on the age and ability of the pupils.
- Sessions are suitable for groups of 30 and any group larger than 30 will be split into smaller groups and will work their way around every session.
- We have enjoyed receiving groups of up-to 140 pupils in one day.
